I set it up with a less-than-optimal separation although the antenna is in a window on the second story, and the booster unit is on the first floor, but almost under the antenna. Still, it provides a noticeable increase in call clarity and EVDO data speeds [.].). It was worth the cost to me.
I would at best get 1 bar in the back of the house with constant call dropping. On my roof, 5 bars.I mounted the antenna on the chimney about 12 feet above the level of the transmitter and about 15 feet horizontal distance. I could get 1-2 bars in the front of my house. Outside I could get 2-3 bars. Now I get five bars in the in the family in the back of the house.I noticed that best placement of the transmitter was line-of-sight. If you can't see the transmitter antenna from where you are using the cell phone, the signal is not as strong.Great product, but takes some experimentation to get full functionality.
I was tired of going outside in the elements every time the phone rang. After installing my extender not only do I not have to go outside anymore, I can use my phone in the basement which was out of the question before. I installed the antenna in my attic and the booster in my living room. I also now get two days on my phone battery.
Very good. Mine is an RV application for Verizon Cell Phone, AT&T Cell Phone, and for Verizon Air Card; during our travels we are often in fringe reception areas. I then ordered the high gain booster antenna upgrade YX022-CEL (about $100) which increased internet download speed from 280 kbps to 1200 to 1800 kbps range -- 4 to 6 times as fast. I compared it with a Wilson trucker antenna and amplifier at a single location in rural southeastern Maine; with my application I got 3 bars with Wilson, 4 bars with Wi-Ex. With the Wi-Ex 500 CEL we were able to get internet connection in about 95% of our locations. Internet reliability is also very much improved with the YX022-CEL. I am very pleased with these products.
Furthermore they may switch from 800 to 1900 or visa versa in various areas after the merger was complete. This unit did the trick for us increasing the signal in the house from a minimal 1 bar to 4 to 5 bars.
well not all Alltel phones as we use Allel and the YX500 would not comunicate with our phone as some Alltel phones are not on the 800 frequency. The info regarding the description of this product says it works with Alltel and Verizon phones.
We sent the YX500 back to Amazon and ordered the Dual band WiEX 510. Our Alltel local provider "thought" that the Alltel towers in our area worked on 800, but turns out they do not.
Doing some more research we found that most cell phone providers can switch from time to time from the 800 frequency to the 1900 frequency. Since Alltel and Verizon are merging I spoke to a Alltel tech about what frequency they would be using and he told me in some areas they would be using 800 and in others 1900.
so just get the dual band YX510 and you will be covered whatever they do.
